Memphian Matt Cain Powers Giants Past Phillies in NLCS

Memphian Matt Cain was well rested going into his start Tuesday on the mound for the San Francisco Giants in Game 3 of the National League Championship Series against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Playing in front of the Bay Area Home Fans at San Francisco's A-T&T Park, Cain, who had gone 11 days between starts, held the Giants to just two hits over seven innings, striking out five.

Javier Lopez and Brian Wilson finished the shutout with an inning apiece.

Cain, a former Houston High Graduate, was masterful in his NLCS Debut, outdueling the Phillies Cole Hamels, who was MVP of the 2008 World Series.

The Giants touched Hamels for 3-Runs on 5 hits in his six innings of work.

With the 3-Zip shutout, the Giants take a 2-1 lead in the Series.

Game 4 is Wednesday in San Francisco.
