15-year-old Cordova teen charged as adult for raping toddler

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Fifteen-year-old James Prindle looked like a scared kid in his mug shot taken at adult jail following his transfer from juvenile court on aggravated rape charges involving a toddler.

"He'll be indicted and probably appear in criminal court in the next three to six months," said attorney Blake Ballin.

Prindle was transferred Thursday by a juvenile court judge who decided to drop rape charges against a 13-year-old friend of Prindle's and that boy's 11-year-old brother.

Ballin represented the older brother.

"He was found guilty of facilitation," said Ballin.  "We, of course, respect the judge's ruling.  He did a fine job of listening to the evidence and separating everything out."

The 23-month-old victim was raped and beaten inside a unit at the Cordova Creek Apartments.  That was where police said two of the boys claimed a home invasion had occurred.  Police quickly determined the story was an attempt to cover up the crime.

Action News 5 spoke with the victim's father the next day, who told us he and his wife left their daughter with Prindle while they went to work.  The young man is a family member.

"She's a strong girl," the father told us.  "Very strong girl, hard as nails.  So, she's doing good."

The toddler is reportedly still doing well despite what she endured.

James Prindle is being held in a special unit for juveniles on a $150,000 bond.
