County cafeteria workers charged with stealing money from schools

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - A grand jury indicted two Shelby County School District cafeteria workers for stealing money from the schools where they worked.

Courtney Smith is accused of stealing more than $15,000 from Bon Lin Elementary's cafeteria fund. A state audit detailed the scheme that showed Smith cooking the books to benefit herself.

The scheme led investigators to Rivercrest Elementary where they discovered cafeteria cashier Tammy Radford using the same scheme to skim money. Radford told investigators Smith trained her.
