GERMANTOWN, TN (WMC-TV) - A Monday morning fire caused heavy damage to a Germantown business.

Firefighters were called to the fire at Shoemaker Financial at 2176 West Street in Germantown around 7:30 a.m. Monday.  Germantown's entire fire department, nearly 70 firefighters were sent to put the fire out, along with help from Shelby County and Collierville firefighters.

"It was pretty involved when we got here and this is all wood construction, so there was a lot of stuff to burn," Germantown Fire Chief Dennis Wolf said.

Soon after the firefighters arrived, the building's roof collapsed.

"There were some rooftop air conditioners on the roof, and as the wood support structures underneath burned away, it caused the roof to collapse," Wolf said.

Shoemaker Financial's Vice President, Jeff Long, said none of the company's records were destroyed because they are kept in another location.  But it's not known how much, if any damage, was done.

"We're not sure the extent of the damage to our physical equipment or how soon we'll be able to get it back up online, and of course financial institutions today are dependent on their computer system," Long said.

Investigators said the fire started near an exterior sign mounted to the building, but the exact cause of the blaze is unknown.
