Stormy weather knocks down trees, spawns tornado warnings

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Severe weather passing through the Mid-South Tuesday morning downed trees and spawned several tornado warnings.

An Action News 5 viewer submitted a photo of a tree that was split in two in Millington.

Meanwhile, high winds caused a power line and power pole to topple over near Poplar Pike and Satinwood Drive.  Police were called out to block traffic in the area while MLGW worked to fix the problem.

At Argonne and St. Elmo, winds blew a tree onto a police car.  No injuries were reported.

Strong winds also may have been to blame for part of a tree falling onto a car in the 4400 block of Castle Avenue.  The tree broke out the back windshield of a 2010 Dodge Charger.  It also did some damage to the gutter on the side of the home. No injuries were reported.

Because of power outages caused by the weather, Woodland Presbyterian School closed Tuesday.  Additionally, Ridgeway High School closed at 11:30 a.m.
