MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Memphis police hope images recorded by a surveillance camera will help them catch two men who kidnapped an elderly Memphis man.

According to police, on the afternoon of October 18, an 86-year-old man walked out of the post office at 3711 Austin Peay.  Moments later, two men forced the man into his own car, and made him drive to the Regions Bank at 3412 Austin Peay, near the Raleigh Springs Mall.

For unknown reasons, one of the suspects went inside the bank, where his image was caught by a surveillance camera. After he returned to the car, the men forced the victim to drive to the First Tennessee Bank at 2664 North Hollywood.

Alone inside, instead of withdrawing $5,000 as ordered, the victim told the tellers what was happening.

They called the police and the two kidnappers took off running.

In press release, Memphis police released the following information about the suspects:

  • Suspect#1 was described as a male Black, medium complexion, medium build, clean shaven, between 25-30 years of age, 5'8"- 5'10", 160- 200 lbs., wearing a dark-colored checkered shirt, dark pants and a black cap.
  • Suspect#2 was described as a male Black, approximately 5'9", dark complexion, wearing a dark red/gray horizontal stripe shirt, and black pants.

If you have information that could help police, call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
