MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - A Memphis woman is accused of impersonating her employer, a local dentist, in order to cash insurance payments.

Lillie Evans, a former employee of Dr. Denise Martin, is charged with threat and forgery after allegedly pretending to be Martin.

Investigators allege that Evans, who worked for Martin for 11 years, raided her employer's mail and pulled out payments from insurance companies.  Evans allegedly signed Martin's name on 11 checks between the months of April and August, and cashed them at local banks.

A total over $12,845.50 was taken.

"It's just devastating," said Martin, who did not want to be interviewed on camera.

Martin said she trusted Evans with her business, and at times, even her children.

After learning about the thefts, Martin had security cameras, a lock box, and other surveillance equipment installed in her office.
