Arkansas lottery scholarship awards could be cut

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The legislative panel that oversees the Arkansas lottery is considering a move to reduce scholarship award amounts by 10%.

Under the proposal made Thursday, scholarships for students at 4-year schools would dip from $5,000 to $4,500. Awards for community college students would fall from $2,500 to $2,250.

Legislators say there won't be enough money to sustain the current lottery-funded scholarship amounts.

The panel voted to delay a vote on the proposal until more information is available during the upcoming legislative session.
