MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - For Brenda Cline, dealing with the death of her brother, Donald Ellsworth, and his longtime girlfriend, Jerri Meister, has been heartbreaking.

Her son, 25-year-old Joshua Cline, is now charged with murdering 59-year-old Ellsworth, his uncle, and 50-year-old Meister.

The couple was found Christmas Eve inside the home they shared on Brower Street.

"They were always there when anyone needed them to talk or a place to sit and eat," said Brenda Cline.

According to Memphis Police, the couple died from sharp and blunt force trauma.  An ax found next to their bodies is believed to be the murder weapon.

Investigators said robbery appeared to be the motive.  They said prescription pills, cash and credit cards were stolen from the couple's home.

"Why would anybody do something so violent?" asked Brenda Cline.

Before her son was charged with the crime, Brenda Cline said she had no idea who would want to kill her brother and his girlfriend.

"They were good people," she said.  "They help anybody, which is why I can't understand why anybody would think about doing something like this to them."

Joshua Cline is not in jail, but at the MED, where he is being treated for unrelated medical problems.  He was in fair condition Thursday night.
