Judge under review for conduct violations, eating chips

OSCEOLA, FL (CNN) - A Central Florida judge may lose his job after being accused of inappropriate behavior with other staff members and eating potato chips on the bench.

Suspended Osceola Judge James Turner appeared pained, at times, during hearings on his alleged misconduct in October.

A state commission is recommending that he be removed from office.

The statement read, "Judge Turner's conduct taken as a whole is fundamentally inconsistent with the responsibilities of judicial office."

Listed in the charges is negligence in paying back a $30,000 loan debt for his campaign, which Turner borrowed from his mother despite a $500 donation limit. After his mother's home went into foreclosure Turner acted as her attorney, which is illegal for a sitting judge.

While on the bench, he has been reported screaming, showing off his gun and "crunching" potato chips.

However, more concerning to the commission was that he was reported as having tried to hug and kiss a court clerk.

"I don't properly recognize boundaries," Turner said.

Turner was found not guilty of conduct violations. But the hearing panel said they had, "no confidence in his future judgment."

A final decision on Turner's punishment is expected sometime in the next few months.
