Two dead after small plane crash in Texas

ELLIS COUNTY, TX (CNN) - Federal investigators are working to find out what caused a small plane to crash in North Texas, killing the 40-year-old pilot and a passenger.

The single engine plane took off from Eagles Nest Estates Airport in Midlothian, a private neighborhood airstrip. It crashed just after takeoff.

Witnesses said it was about 400 feet in the air when they saw a puff of smoke and heard the engine stop.

Neighbors say the pilot was experienced and flew a couple times a week for business.
