Southwest nixes blackout dates for frequent fliers

DALLAS (CNN) - Southwest Airlines is revamping its rewards program.

They're getting rid of blackout dates, and points will no longer expire as long as customers fly or earn points with a Southwest partner every two years.

Fliers will have the option to redeem their points with third-party rewards like international flights, hotel rooms, cruises or gift cards.

The changes take effect March 1.
