MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - People in Rochester, New York helped bring a grieving mother to Memphis for her son's funeral Saturday.

Brenda Randle said it was painful to see her slain 20-year-old son, Anthony Randle, but not seeing him would have been worse.

"I'm grateful to be here today," she said.  "When I saw him, I kissed him and hugged him.  Just to let him know I'm so sorry this had to happen to him."

Brenda Randle was able to say goodbye to her son thanks to an upstate New York television station.  They raised money so she could afford the trip to Memphis.

Store surveillance video showed Anthony Randle outside Park Avenue Food Store.  He got on his bike as two men in hoods walked by and said something.  Moments later, Anthony Randle was shot and killed.

Memphis Police arrested 19-year-old Anthony Williams for first degree murder and aggravated robbery.  Court records said Williams went through Randle's pockets at gunpoint, then shot him multiple times.

Williams' record also includes charges for drug possession, criminal trespass and aggravated burglary.

"Maybe if he'd been off the streets, maybe it wouldn't have happened," said Brenda Randle.

Reverend Vonzell Towns said the community must put an end to crime.

"We can no longer afford to not hold people responsible for killing our beautiful loved ones," said Towns.  "He was a father, he was a son, and somebody else wanted to keep loving him."

Williams' next court date is Thursday.  In September, Williams was arrested for burglary, but the charges were later dropped.
