Self-proclaimed superhero gets nose broken

SEATTLE, WA (CNN) - A self-proclaimed superhero has been patrolling the streets helping to fight crime, but police are ready for him to hang up his mask and costume.

Phoenix Jones calls himself a crime fighter. He dresses up in superhero gear and patrols the streets. But on Saturday a man held him at gunpoint while another kicked him and broke his nose.

Now, police say enough is enough so someone doesn't end up dead.

"Don't insert yourself into those situations. If you see something, call 911," said detective Mark Jamieson with the Seattle Police.

Jones broke up a brawl, and then one of the guys turned on him. Jones called 911 and put the guy into a hold while waiting for police. But seconds later, another guy pulled a gun.

"They put themselves into a potentially volatile situation and then they end up being victimized, as well," Jamieson said.

Police worry Jones' recent taste of fame pushes him to put himself in harm's way, but he insists none of that motivates him.

"You know, I train for these situations. I don't just come out willy nilly and just run on the streets," Jones said.

After staring down the barrel of a gun, police hope he will stop before it's too late.

Police say it isn't illegal to put on a costume and patrol the streets. However, they said it could be dangerous. They advise people to call the cops.
