MUNFORD, TN (WMC-TV) - Action News 5 Investigators uncovered border collies left out in the cold on private property in Tipton County.

The dogs were found near Munford, Tennessee.  They are located about 100 yards off a main road in a thicket surrounded by homes.

"We've lived over here for about two years," said neighbor Jayna Manseau.  "We have heard the dogs barking just about every night."

The Tipton County Sheriff's Department got a complaint about the dogs last summer and started investigating.  They later uncovered an advertisement on Craigslist for the dogs.

"As we began investigating it, the Craigslist was taken down," said Tipton County Sheriff's Department Assistant Chief Donna Turner.

Deputies never found the dogs.

Wednesday, they got more information about the dogs and went to check on their welfare with animal control.  They located nearly 50 male and female dogs and puppies.  The dogs had food and water.

"That's a lot of dogs," said neighbor Corey Fleming.  "He comes over and he feeds them twice a day.  I don't see him making contact with them."

The owner, Alan Conner, runs a website for the dogs.  There, he writes he is a breeder of the border collies and has pictures of the puppies for sale.

The Tipton County Sheriff's Department said it wants to talk with Conner.  He does not appear to be neglecting the dogs but will not return calls from the sheriff's department.

"Our whole concern right now is maintaining the well being of the animals," said Turner.  "I can assure that is being done."
