OSCEOLA, AR (WMC-TV) - A gunman barricaded himself in a home for hours after he shot an Osceola, Arkansas woman in the face.

The family of Deborah Ann Cannon said they want to know why the suspect shot the young woman in the early morning hours Sunday.

"We don't know what happened," said Cannon's aunt.  "We still don't know what happened."

Osceola Police said the incident happened in the 800 block of Chestnut.  Family and neighbors said the suspect, known by the nickname "Hulk," fled the shooting to his own home on Alfalfa and Oak.

"I was in the bed," said the suspect's neighbor, David Darkins.  "When I got up and came out, there were just a lot of cars out here.  I didn't know what was happening."

Cannon's family said the shooter barricaded himself inside and would not answer the police or his mother.

"Only way they got him out was they shot tear gas in there because he didn't want to come out," said Cannon's aunt.

When Cannon's family arrived at the hospital, they said they could not believe the nature or her injuries.

"He shot her in the face," said Cannon's aunt.  "It went through her tongue to her throat."

Neighbors and family friends said they were disturbed.

"I feel bad about it," said Roy Thomas, the suspect's neighbor.

"My prayers have been going out for her," said friend of Cannon's family, Ann Adams.  "I hope to God she pulls through."

The family asked that everyone help them find answers.

"If anybody knows what happened and how this stuff happened and why, please let us know," said Cannon's aunt.

The family said Cannon and the suspect were just friends and did not know what sparked the shooting.

The victim's family said she was in critical condition Sunday.

Police did not say where they have the suspect in custody.
