Detroit school fails to pay utilities

DETROIT (CNN) - The lights are out and the doors are locked at a Detroit school that failed to pay its electricity bill.

Detroit Urban Lutheran Schools is struggling to pay $100,000 to a Michigan utility.

Principal David Seifker tried negotiating with the power company but said he only came up with about $10,000.

The 138 students at the private school have missed more than a week's worth of classes.

Seifker is determined to keep the school operating even if the classes have to be moved to a smaller building.
