OLIVE BRANCH, MS (WMC-TV) - Olive Branch Police recently caught a would-be burglar thanks to the quick thinking of a homeowner.

Police said the burglars targeted homes near Hickory Drive and Tahoe in Olive Branch, Mississippi. A concerned citizen called the police when she saw suspicious activity.

At 9:53 p.m. Thursday, Olive Branch Police were called to the area. A neighbor told officers a man knocked on her door and asked for someone she did not know. She was alarmed and gave authorities a description of the car.

Olive Branch Police located the car and pulled it over. Inside, they found tools used to commit burglaries.

Police arrested Lenchez Stephenson and charged him with possession of burglary tools.

Neighbors said burglaries are not common in the area.

"Not many," said neighbor Keith Gray. "Not that I'm aware of."

Gray said since his mother was carjacked in a garage three years ago, he has learned to be more alert.

"I'm always leery of people coming down in this area and committing crimes and then running back across state lines in Memphis," said Gray. "Or whatever the case may be."

In Stephenson's case, he came up from Holly Springs, Mississippi.

The passenger in Stephenson's car was arrested on an outstanding warrant for armed robbery.
