Extra Credit: I am Amaya

By Kym Clark - bio | email | Facebook

Her rap name might be Mo' Money, but we know her as Amaya Selmon, a third grade honor student who just might be the next big thing from Memphis.

The straight A student says rapping is just one of her many pursuits.

"I like to go outside and play with my friends, model and act," she says.

Indeed, Amaya's website reads she's "been modeling since age two, starring in countless local fashion shows" and "even booked work for TJ Maxx in their back to school campaign."

Amaya says her modeling started with a group called the "lollipops," and later she was called back and signed by Mozaic Models. Now Amaya appears to headed for the big time. At the beginning of this year, she was invited to audition in front of 30 talent agents in New York City. She was one of only 4 children selected from Memphis to attend the ConnectNYC talent roundup.

Amaya lists former child stars like Kiki Palmer and Raven Simone as her role models, but says she's hoping for bigger and better things to head her way -  "to be a Super Star," exclaims the happy 8 year old. And as if she wasn't busy enough, Amaya is also a cheerleader and studies piano as well as dance.
