FRIAR'S POINT, MS (WMC-TV) - A domestic dispute left a Friar's Point man dead, and it all started because of text message.

Columbus George married his wife Cheryl just three months ago.

"I felt like they were getting along pretty well," said Columbus George's mother, Deborah George.

Just before nine o'clock Wednesday night, Friar's Point Police department responded to a disturbance call.

"There was a lot of blood," said Police Chief Tracy Vance. "You could tell there had been a fight or a scuffle."

Columbus George, nicknamed "Rooster," had been stabbed multiple times by his wife Cheryl George and his 14 year old step-son.

"The mother did make the statement that he was choking her. He almost choked the wind out of her and the son was trying to get him off of her," said Vance.

George was taken to Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center where he later died.

"Its a sad situation for our community," said Vance.

Now, George's mother is trying to figure out how something like this happened to her son.

"Its terrible. I hate the way it happened, how it happened and when it happened because I wasn't there with him," said Deborah George.

She says children should not get involved in their parent's disputes.

"Keep the children out of it," said George. "No one should ever fight with children in the room with them."

Cheryl George is still in custody. Her 14-year-old son has been released to his father.

The Coahoma County Sheriff's Department is handling the investigation. No charges have been filed at this point.
