MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Opinions among Memphians about the snow and ice vary as much as the amounts we get during winter weather events.
"We've had our share of snow," said Louise Hopson.
She put her faith in Action News 5's Chief Meteorologist Dave Brown.
"Well Dave, hold back off the snow now," she quipped.
She's been among a flurry of folks heading to the Midtown Home Depot in recent weeks for a product called ice melt. But it sold out during the last snowfall and was replaced with sand normally used for making concrete.
"The community needs something to put down to make sure they don't slip around on the streets," said Chuch Dannah with Home Depot.
The latest round of winter weather arrived Tuesday around the same time as rush hour. But it caused no major problems initially.
"As the temperatures fall, obviously, we're gonna have some freezing on the roadways," said Shelby County EMA Director Bob Nations.
Nations said his office is in constant touch with crews from public works who prepare for whatever the weather brings.
"We've had a few ice storms in recent years that really caused a lot of damage," Nations said.
He was among those keeping things in perspective and realizing a relatively brief snowfall is nowhere near the worst winter weather.
