California now has Lohan's DNA on file

LOS ANGELES (CNN) - Because Lindsay Lohan has been charged with felony grand theft, the state of California now has the actress' DNA on file.

"Because it's a felony arrest - as routinely we do with all people that are arrested for felonies - there was a DNA swab taken," said Steve Whitmore, media spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Whitmore said Lohan was obliging of authorities as she completed the process.

"She was cooperative, and she has now left," he said. "That's pretty much the long and the short of it."

Lohan was charged in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday after being accused of stealing a necklace last month from a jeweler in Venice, CA, where she owns an apartment.

The actress pleaded not guilty in court and is free for the present time on two $20,000 bonds.

The felony charge comes just five weeks after Lohan completed a drug rehab program.

If convicted, Lohan could face up to three years in prison.
