Grandmother comes home after being stuck in Egypt

SEATTLE (CNN) - Grandmother Mary Thornberry arrived back in Seattle Tuesday after having been stranded in Egypt because of the violent protests occurring in the country.

After experiencing the protests up close for nearly a week, Thornberry is glad to be reunited with her son in the U.S.

The 76-year-old was stuck inside her apartment in Cairo, Egypt, for nearly a week.

She was trapped, without power and water, as Egyptian looters ran wildly outside. Eventually, she was rescued by complete strangers.

"I'm so grateful and thankful," Thornberry said. "It was a groundswell of people offering support and trying to get me assistance."

Thornberry's trip to the U.S took five days and covered nearly 7,000 miles.

She is now resting at her son's house.
