Teens face charges for setting student's hair on fire

MIDDLETOWN, OH (NBC) - Three teenagers are facing criminal assault charges after allegedly setting another student's hair on fire.

Devin Lewis, a freshman at Middletown High School, said he has been bullied for years.

"I have been called names and I have been beat up," Devin said.

While riding home, Devin was listening to music when another student put the flame from a lighter in his face. When he jerked back, another student lit the back of his hair on fire. The fire was put quickly out by Devin's friends.

"I pulled back my hair, and all I grabbed were ashes," he said.

Devin's mom said she could smell the burned hair when her son came home and immediately called the school.

An expulsion hearings for the three suspended students will be scheduled by the principal within 10 days.
