MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - A Memphis woman was counting her blessings Monday after she was carjacked over the weekend in a grocery store parking lot.

Gloria Shields said the carjacking occurred at the Kroger grocery store on Lamar Avenue.

"I just started screaming and hollering," she said.

Shields was on her way to church, and had just arrived at the store, when two men approached her as she was trying to lock her car door.

"He just said, 'Give me your keys, give me your keys,' and I looked up at him and said, 'For what? For what?'"

Shields started struggling with the man.

"He opened the car door and then I grabbed him, and I just began pulling," she said. "Then I called on the name of Jesus. I said, 'Jesus, Jesus, Jesus.'"

Meanwhile, the second suspect entered Shield's vehicle on the passenger side.

"The other guy came around and said, 'Man get in the car. Get in the car and let's go,'" Shields said.

According to the police report, the first suspect, armed with a small handgun, then pushed Shields out of way, got into the car, and drove off with the driver side door open.  As the suspects sped off, the door struck Shields in the left arm.

Police later captured the suspects as they headed West on Lamar.

"They could have killed me or I could have gotten hurt," Shields said. "But God shielded and protected me."

Monday, both suspects remained in police custody, but so far they have not been charged.
