Neighbors flock to family's backyard luge track

LANDENBERG, PA (NBC) - One Pennsylvania family takes sledding to another level.

Frank Evans has been making luge tracks in his backyard for years and they've become the talk of the neighborhood.

But for the last decade there hasn't been enough snow for the family to make a successful track. That all changed last year.

The past two winters have been full of snow, the perfect recipe for a slippery ride that can propel riders up to 30 miles per hour during the 1,000 feet of icy, twisty track.

"The snow this year came down wet and you can pack it and you can make the bottom real hard, so at night, when it freezes up, it turns to solid ice and it's fast," Evans said.

The upcoming forecast may signal an end for the neighborhood luge track.

"This is it, this thing is melting every day," Evans said.

But you can bet, with a little cooperation from Mother Nature, the Landenberg Luge will be back next winter.
