MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - The African elephants at the Memphis Zoo will do just about anything for a treat, including creating original artwork.

Tyronza, better known as Ty, is a 47-year-old painting elephant.

"We want the elephants to be stimulated and do different things and this is just one way for them to show some of their artistic abilities," said Andrew Smith with the Memphis Zoo.

The elephants are not the only artists at the Memphis Zoo.  Andre the sea lion has a flair for composition, as does Chickie the orangutan.

Outdoors, Chickie's zoo mates like to steal her canvas and eat the paint.  Chickie still has enough alone time to hammer out a masterpiece.

Many of the animals' creations are auctioned off to raise money for various animal groups and animal conservation.

One of Chickie's paintings fetched $175 dollars in an auction to benefit Mid-South Spay and Neuter Services in Memphis.  The money will be put toward spay and neutering feral cats.
