Pizza workers turn the tables on robber

SAN DIEGO (CNN) - An armed robber got more than he bargained for when he tried to hold up a San Diego, CA, pizzeria.

"We had just popped a pizza in the oven, turned around, and there was this guy standing there," said Patrick Clemmons, who works at Paradise Pizza.

It was just about closing time when for Clemmons and owner Mychal Dourson. An armed robber with a gun and a can of mace with a ski mask over his face approached the owners demanding money.

"And I said, 'What are you kidding me?'" Dourson said. "And he sprayed us in the face with the mace."

With no hesitation, Dourson knocked the phone off the hook and dialed 911.

"That phone hit the ground, and I saw Mychal diving towards him, and I said, 'OK, I guess we are doing this now,'" Clemmons said.

Bodies hit the floor, tables and chairs started flying, and it was a rumble in the restaurant. Eventually, the pizza boys came out on top.

"And I'm furious, I said, 'Tell me how to turn this thing on so I can mace you in the eye,'" Dourson said.

By the time police came, the robber was a bloody mess and you could not tell the blood stains from the tomato sauce on Dourson's shirt.

Police arrested a 22-year-old resident. He is facing assault, burglary and robbery charges.
