LILBURN, GA (CNN) - An alleged methamphetamine house fire has claimed the lives of three Georgia children, and police are searching for the man they say is behind it.
Ivan Gonzales has been charged with two counts of murder and arson in connection with the fire, and the third murder charge is pending.
Investigators said the fire erupted in a hallway on the first floor, when the chemicals used to make drugs ignited.
Good Samaritans pulled two of the children out of the burning house, and a fire fighter brought out the third child who died at the scene. The other two children later died at an area hospital in Lilburn, GA.
Police say Gonzales said he would follow paramedics to the hospital, but he never arrived.
"At this point we're asking for the public's help in locating that suspect," Cpl. Jake Smith, Gwinnett County Police Department. "We have not located him at any area hospitals or at any of his other known locations."
The mother of the children is facing drug trafficking charges.
