Businesses coming, going in Overton Square

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - While businesses in Overton Square continue to pack up and move out, one new business is moving in.

Friday, Jody Clark opened The Dublin House, an Irish pub which will offer food, a full bar and of course, beer.

Clark, who has extensive experience in the pub business, hopes her new venture will be a lucky charm in a commercial district full of uncertainty.

One by one, businesses in Overton Square have shut down.  Later this month, Paulette's will move to Harbor town after 37 years in Overton Square.  Meanwhile, Memphis Pizza Cafe's lease expires later this year.

The prospect of a major overhaul of Overton Square has sparked a debate between historic preservationists and property owners.

But there have been bright spots along the way.  Sidestreet made a powerful comeback after burning to the ground, and a trendy yogurt shop is moving in at the corner of Madison and Cooper.

Now, The Dublin House fills a location that's had its ups and downs.  After the most recent tenant moved out, it was considered a Midtown eyesore.

But Clark hopes the luck of the Irish and a lot of customers will bring economic stability to an area that's close to her heart.
