COLLIERVILLE, TN (WMC-TV) – A 16-year-old Collierville High School student is recovering after he was shot early Sunday morning.

Police say Joseph Gant was shot in the area of Harris and Sycamore Streets, not far from Funquest Skating and Bowling Centerm, where he told police he and some friends had been.

Investigators said there was some sort of argument before the shooting, but the exact motive remains unclear.

After the shooting, the teen was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital in Collierville, where he remained in critical condition Wednesday.

Gant, a student at Collierville High School, was involved in some highly publicized fights a couple of years ago.  But Wednesday afternoon, a family member decribed him as a "good boy."

"Trouble just comes to him and other boys, and just because it's Collierville doesn't mean we're exempt from troubles," the family member said.

Classmates at Collierville High School said Gant may have been shot with a pellet gun. However, police say the weapon was a small caliber handgun.

No arrests have been made.
