DESOTO COUNTY, MS (WMC-TV) - She's only 11 years old, but if you looked at the filmography of DeSoto County, Mississippi 5th grader Haley Parker you'd think she was much older.

Haley held down the starring role in a short independent film entitled "Avarice." The Overpark Elementary student has also starred in numerous plays and other independent films, most recently "A Rain Remembered,"  and "Fresh Squeezed." She also did two for the 48 Hour Film Festival.

Haley claims her love for acting is born of the same creativity she's now finding in writing screenplays.

"I like to pretend a lot, so this gives me a chance to do that," she remarked about acting.

"The reason I wrote a script is because it's where I can make my imaginary worlds come to life," Haley added.

She's in the middle of writing two screenplays now, collaborating with a friend on one about Greek mythology and re-working another for Fuel Film's 48 Hour Film Event.

As for the future, it might do you well to remember Haley Parker's name! And not so incidentally, Haley has a small part in a film that will be viewed at the Sundance Film Festival called "Jess and Moss."

It should also be noted that, despite all the time that goes into her acting, screen writing, and directing, she's also in the gifted program at her school bringing in straight A's. She's also pretty popular in school too.
