MEMPHIS, TN - (WMC-TV) - A legendary football coach joined the likes of Elvis and Danny Thomas with a prestigious award presented to him on Friday.

Lou Holtz inspired a group of business men and women at the Breakfast Club.

"You have to have a passion to win," said Holtz.

While in Memphis, Holtz was awarded the 2011 Autozone Distinguished Person award.

"It's one of the most prestigious awards in the country," said Steve Erhart, the executive director for the Autozone Liberty Bowl. "It's based on patriotism and service to country."

Erhart said the coaching legend earned the award because of his actions on and off the field.

"He's got every coaching record in college history. He's taken six teams to six bowl games. Nobody is even close to that. He's given his wisdom and knowledge and guidance to so many over the years," he said.

Holtz led North Carolina State University to win the 1973 AutoZone Liberty Bowl.

"We beat a Big 8 team; we beat Kansas," said Holtz. "It seems like yesterday. I still see some of NC State players and we talk about the great time we had in Memphis."

The coach turned motivational speaker says people matter most and adding value to a life, adds value your life.

"You can go into life and be successful and make money, but one thing about coaching is it allows you to be significant and that's where you help other people be successful," said Holtz.

Lou Holtz will be speaking in Memphis again at the end of March. You can find more info on that event here: https://www.getmotivated.com/city.aspx?a=5282
