Memorial service for child killed by pesticides

MIAMI (CNN) - A memorial service was held Sunday for the Florida girl whose body was found in the back of her adoptive father's truck earlier this month.

Police found 10-year-old Nubia Barahona dead and her twin brother and father covered in chemicals on the side of a freeway in West Palm Beach.

Families at the school Nubia attended held the service.

"Let the short life of Nubia not be overshadowed by the uncertainty of reasons surrounding her death. We have all blessed by God to have been a small part of Nubia's life, and her of ours," said Joanne Muniz, a family friend and member of the Blue Lakes Elementary School PTA.

Nubia's father, Jorge Barahona, remains in jail facing attempted murder and child abuse charges. He has not yet been charged in the girl's death.

State records show that fellow parents and school staffers raised concerns about Nubia four times over five years, saying they suspected abuse. The concerns were dismissed each time.
