JACKSON, TN (WMC-TV) - Hale Street in Jackson, Tennessee is dotted with what appear to be abandoned or vacant houses.

Police said 28-year-old Christopher Griffin criminally exposed a 14-year-old boy to HIV during a sexual encounter inside one of them.

"It's bad, bad, real bad," said one neighbor.

Many others in the neighborhood share the same opinion.

"That's despicable," said another neighbor.  "A 14-year-old in the first place is something to be considered."

Police said Griffin and the teen initially met on bgclive.com, a social networking site catering to African American and Latino members of the LGBT community.

Griffin is charged with aggravated statutory rape because he is more than 10 years older than the teenager.  He was charged with criminal exposure to HIV because police said Griffin failed to disclose his illness.

"I don't have any reason to believe he alerted the young man," said Jackson Police Capt. Mike Holt.

Holt said criminal exposure to HIV is a class C felony and applies to anyone who, among other things, has sex without informing their partner of the potential risk.

"In fact, I don't think anybody necessarily knew about that until he told us," said Holt.

Police plan to follow up with the teenager to see if his health changes.

At last check, Christopher Griffin was still locked up in the Madison County Jail.
