Picking the right wine for food

With the approaching fall season, we think outdoor picnics, tailgating, and various other outdoor activities in the cool weather. There are many wonderful wines that will work well with these events.

Shiraz and red zinfandel are hearty and bold enough to stand up to fall food and the climate. Here are my suggestions: enjoy Bogle or Peachy Canyon with spare ribs, Smoking Loon or Coleman Pinot Noir goes great with grilled burgers and sausages. Try Hacienda merlot or Black Swan shiraz with grilled lamb chops. For you fish lovers, try a New Zealand sauvignon blanc such as Jackson Estate, Dyed in the Wool or Nautilus. California has Chateau Potelle, Tin Roof and Chateau Souverain sauvignon blanc that work well with salmon, sea bass and amberjack. Sparkling wine and Champaign match nicely with chicken salad and many Asian foods.

Whatever your tastes there is a wine to go with it, Enjoy!
