HORN LAKE, MS (WMC-TV) - For a choir, they're considered small with only 15 members. Most choirs are much larger.

But this drama-free, all-girl choral troupe's name, Jolie Chanson - French for beautiful singing - should leave little doubt about musical talent, and not just to the group's ears.

"We were the first Mississippi high school choir to be chosen to sing at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.," junior choir member Tory Hutchison proudly proclaimed.

The Horn Lake High School choir just returned from a whirlwind visit to D.C. after performing during Evensong at the National Cathedral.

The young ladies also toured the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, the Library of Congress and Archives Museum, as well as the Capital Building.

"We sang in the rotunda of the Russell Building. We sang 'America The Beautiful,' 'My Country Tis of Thee,' and a few of our performance pieces," added Hutchison.

The students missed three days of class for their visit to our nation's capital, but Choral Director Holly Beck says the girls learned a lot and saw, in action, some of the lessons they'd previously only read about in books.

"It was amazing to be able to share that with the kids. And I wish every teacher had the opportunity to take their kids and do something like this, where you see what you're doing, just coming alive in the kids and you know that it's an experience that they'll always remember,' beamed Beck.

Last year, Jolie Chanson was selected to sing at the Mississippi Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association, the only high school choir out of four chosen for the honor. The other three were college choirs.

It was a video from that performance that Director Beck sent in as an audition for a chance to sing at the National Cathedral.
