MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - The University of Memphis Tigers are headed to the NCAA Tournament and the Pink Palace is celebrating.

"We're part of Memphis and Memphis is excited," said Steve Pike, director of museums at the Pink Palace. "We're right behind the Tigers.  U of M is practically our next door neighbor, for one, but if you live in Memphis, you gotta be for the Tigers."

So, the Pink Palace is being transformed into a Blue Palace.  Staffers spent Wednesday hard at work, putting finishing touches on some big changes.  The building will be bathed in blue flood lights at night, and there will even be a blue polar bear.

"You didn't know that polar bears could be blue didn't you? (laughs) They are.  We may have the only one in captivity, but there he is.":08sec >

According to Pike, the Pink Palace will remain Tiger Blue until the Tigers return home to Memphis.

"Did you know that 25 out of the last 26 years, a 12 seed has won at least once in the first round?  This is our year for the Tigers," he said.

Pike said the "Blue Palace" is a way to congratulate Coach Josh Pastner and all the Tigers for helping to make Memphis a winner.

"We play on Friday, so as you drive by down Central Avenue in the evening, look over here and you'll see the Blue Palace and root for the Tigers," he said.
