BARTLETT, TN (WMC-TV) - A cop-covered parking lot was not what customers expected to see when they stopped by after work Wednesday at the Regions Bank at Stage and Kate Bond Roads in Bartlett.

"This area, compared to other parts of Memphis, is pretty safe," said customer John Pantall.

Police say it took only seconds for a suspect to get away with an undisclosed amount of cash after strolling in just before 4:00 p.m.

"He acted like there was a weapon, but there was none seen," said Lt. Rory Mack of the Bartlett Police Department.

Mack said the suspect left an impression on bank employees, who made mental notes of at least two distinguishing features.

"He did have a black eye," said Mack.

And the suspect stood just over five feet two inches tall - something that also stood out.

Investigators believe the black-eyed bandit had an accomplice as well.  He may have, incredibly, gone to the restroom during the robbery.

He was seen inside the bank wearing a striped shirt.  A witness told police the robber may have knocked on a bathroom door before leaving the bank through a side door.

Officers quickly canvassed surrounding businesses like Bikes Plus.

"They wanted to know if we'd seen two guys," said Ray Munoz.  "One had a black eye."

The black eye may turn out to be the bandit's Achilles heel.
