MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Memphis police say a 33-year-old man spent the night sobering up in jail after he let his 14-year-old son drive his car.

Unfortunately for William Smith, his underage, designated driver wrecked the car Wednesday at the intersection of Lamar and American Way. Police say Smith, whose driver's license had been previously revoked, had no proof of insurance and the vehicle's license plate was expired.

Officers say Smith's blood alcohol level at the time of the crash was .251, more than three times the legal limit.

A second child was also in the car, but police haven't released his age or details of the crash.

Smith is facing a long list of charges including DUI and contributing to the delinquency of minors.
