LAUDERDALE COUNTY, TN (WMC-TV) - A missing man's car was pulled from flood waters late Thursday night in Lauderdale County, leaving family members fearing the worst.

Search and rescue crews battled swift currents Friday as they continued to look for 80 year old Luther Wayne Bagby.

Cliff Sweat was one of the last people to spot Bagby.

"When we came through the deepest part here we actually stopped to make sure he wasn't going to drown his vehicle out," Sweat said. "If he did, we were going to go back and help.  He did make it through the water.  We just kept on."

Authorities later pulled Bagby's car from the floodwaters along Highway 19 in the Ashport community.  Crews had to pull it out of four to five feet of water.

"Me and my worker was commenting on how fast he was driving," Sweat said. "We assumed he was not familiar with the water situation."

Investigators said Bagby got out of his car, grabbed his keys and walking cane, and then dialed 9-1-1.

Crews spent the day in boats sifting through the rising waters looking for any sign of Bagby, remaining hopeful they'd be able to locate him.

As the waters continue to rise in Lauderdale County, authorities are urging all residents to be extra careful on the roads.
