Fugitives being extradited to Louisiana

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Federal charges against two fugitives captured in Memphis have been dropped, though the men still face extradition to Louisiana on state charges.

Court documents from the Middle District of Louisiana show that a federal charge of unlawful flight from prosecution has been dismissed for both Darian Pierce and Ricky Wedgeworth. They were arrested Monday, 10 days after authorities said they escaped a Zachary, La., police barracks in a stolen van.

State charges of simple escape and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle remain in place for the men. They now face extradition to face the charges filed in the 19th Judicial Circuit of East Baton Rouge Parish in Louisiana.

Pierce made a court appearance Friday. During the hearing, a federal prosecutor told a magistrate judge of the extradition plans.
