MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) An 8-year-old boy is at LeBonhuer Children's Hospital after being  hit by a day care van.

Mathew Hobbs has serious injuries, including a broken femur. Around 3:45 Wednesday afternoon, Hobbs was crossing the road at Barr and Dennison. He was hit by a day care van carrying five children.

Hobbs was taken to LeBonhuer Children's Hospital. Investigators says the driver, Shavonna Windham, was driving on a suspended license. Melanie Jones could not believe what she saw when she got to her son.

"I knew his leg was broke on the scene because it was laying to the side," said Jones. "I just thought he wasn't going to make it."

Jones said the doctors anticipate her son will make a full recovery. No one on the daycare van was injured.

Windham was given a misdemeanor citation. Academy Care was not available for comment.
