MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Helping young girls soar is the goal of the Pink Eagles mentoring program, and so far, more than 130 young ladies have built up both their confidence and character through the program.

"I will not use my words or powers to hurt myself or others."

"I will walk in divine purpose and encourage others to do the same."

If you are a Pink Eagle, you have definite ideas about the way a young lady should behave.

Loretta McNary built Pink Eagles from the ground up four years ago.  She operates the mentoring program from her studios in the Hickory Ridge Mall, where she tapes the Loretta McNary show.

Every Tuesday night between 5:00 and 7:30, It's all about the girls for McNary.

"We work on self esteem every time we meet," she said.  "We work on confidence and public speaking."

The girls, ages 5 and up, are taught social etiquette, leadership skills, and are shown what it takes to own and operate your own business.  Recently, they learned about the jewelry business and making rings.

"We have tons of fun, but we learn too," said McNary.  "Everything is hands on.  Every time we start, we start with our Pink Eagle Creed."

"We are powerful and intriguing, non-threatening and kind," said 13-year-old Lia Moore as she recited the creed.

More has been in the program for four weeks and said it has already made a difference in her life.

"It's improved my attitude at home and it's making me more self-confident," said Moore.

Amerika Manor is 14 years old and admits she used to be shy.

"Ever since I came here I haven't been shy at all, and I like it," said Manor.

Pink Eagles does not cost the girls any money.  McNary has shouldered all the costs, and she is now getting some help.

The Shelby County Sheriff's Department has adopted the program and supplied the Pink Eagles with materials that will help them soar.
