Woman dies in North Memphis house fire

A North Memphis woman was killed Saturday after a fire ignited at her house.

The blaze broke out inside her home in the 1000 block of Speed off of North Watkins.

Lt. Wayne Cook from the Memphis Fire Department said the 63-year-old woman was found near a bathtub in the home.  Neighbors said her name is Ivonne Perkins Gunter.

Her longtime neighbor and friend Eric Shaw saw her as firefighters wheeled her out of the house.

"She didn't appear burned at all," said Shaw.  "They were working on her chest, trying to get her to breathe.  And I was just praying that they revived her."

The woman was taken to the MED, where she later died.

The home had no working smoke detectors.  Investigators are still working to find out what caused the blaze.
