Mud Island residents told to be ready to evacuate

(WMC-TV) – Residents of the east shore of Mud Island should prepare to evacuate their homes, officials with the Shelby County EMA said Tuesday.

As the Mississippi River continues to rise, officials said it is possible residents of Mud Island could see water in their homes soon.

Officials said residents should be prepared to leave as early as Tuesday night.  Homes are being monitored on a case by case basis.

The National Weather Service is forecasting the Mississippi River's level to reach 46.5 feet by May 7, and 48 feet by May 10.  With wave wash, officials said, that river level would flood over Tom Lee Park.
