25 families evacuated from flooded mobile home park

(WMC-TV) - Emergency responders evacuated 25 families from the Redwood Estates RV and Mobile Home Park as water lapped at their doorsteps Saturday.

Fire fighters used boats to transport mobile home park residents to MATA buses.  The buses then took them to dry land.

Fire trucks and ambulances were also on the scene.  Police set up road blocks to prevent people from getting stuck.

"It's a very eerie feeling," said neighbor Rev. Claiborne Davenport.

Davenport wanted to help, but could not get past the roads turned into floodways.

"I think it's said," said neighbor Jacqueline Jones.  "It's really sad."

Jones' home is near flooded two blocks from Redwood.

"My worst fear is if they don't have anywhere for this water to go, it's going to have to go somewhere and flood our house out," said Jones.

Nearby Memphis Mobile City is already flooded out.  Neighbor Lewis Jones said it was hard to see even the slightest bit of rain Saturday.

"I never thought the rain could do this much damage in one week," said Jones.

Jones said he is praying for the evacuees.

"I'm just thinking how can people survive this stuff?" asked Jones.

"It's just a mystery of what's going to happen," said Davenport.  "Where's it going to stop?"

The evacuated families were assigned to temporary housing.
