Mother desperate for help in finding daughter's killer

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) - A Mid-South mother pleaded for the community's help in catching her daughter's killer Sunday.

Marquita Adams, 24, was found beaten to death in the back of her green Ford Escort. Her mother, Chiquita Adams said the family cannot have peace until the killer is captured.

"She died from blunt force trauma," said Chiquita Adams.

Chiquita Adams said her daughter's car was found abandoned in 1200 block of Empire Street on May 15. She said her family members are devastated.

"This has had like an explosion, like a nuclear bomb going off," she said. "She had so many cousins and so many family members that truly loved her."

Police have charged David Burrows, an acquaintance of Marquita Adams, with the murder. So far, officers have been unable to locate and arrest Burrows.

Chiquita Adams said she thinks that Burrows is getting help from someone while on the run.

"He's a monster, he's a coward, he's everything terrible," she said. "You just don't take a life like that and expect to be on the run all your life."

Chiquita Adams said she wonders what will happen to her daughter's 8-year-old and 4-year-old daughters, who are still coming to grips with what has happened.

"My grandbabies right now need closure knowing that this man is off the street, he's behind bars, that he will never harm another person," said Chiquita Adams. "If you harm somebody like that, you are going to continue to do it. It's not going to stop. He needs to be accountable. He needs to be put behind bars for what he did to my child."

Police asked anyone with information about this case to call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
