MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - First lady Michelle Obama is scheduled to visit young patients at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis. The hospital says Obama will visit with children and tour the hospital on Wednesday afternoon. St. Jude is considered a leading researcher of cancer and other life-threatening diseases that affect children.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee is among 19 states receiving more than $10 million to ensure workers are accurately classified in unemployment insurance programs. The funds will be used to help state unemployment insurance tax programs identify instances where employers improperly classify employees as independent contractors or fail to report wages paid to workers.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Republican Gov. Bill Haslam and his Democratic predecessor, Phil Bredesen, are appearing at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville on Wednesday in support of a proposed constitutional amendment on the merit selection of appeals and Supreme Court judges. The event is planned for the Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - FedEx says it will raise U.S. rates for express, ground and home-delivery shipments by an average of 4.9 percent in January.The company said Tuesday that rates also will change for FedEx SmartPost, which uses the U.S. Postal Service for final delivery, although it didn't say how much.
