Burglars strike building that houses MPD offices

(WMC-TV) - A Memphis Police sky cop is now keeping watch at 2714 Union Extended after two burglars stole items from multiple offices over the July 4 weekend.

The items included electronics from the doctor's office where Bridgett Martin works.

"A laptop and a computer that I know of," said Martin.

She was surprised because several floors house offices for the police department, including internal affairs.

The fire department's EMS administration is housed on the third floor along with other city offices.  That was where two flat-screen TVs were ripped from a wall.

"First of all, the police officers are right upstairs and who would have thought they would have tried anything like that," said Martin.

Police made this their "crime of the week" and are eager to catch the bold burglars who they believe broke in during the overnight hours last Saturday.

It is not clear how the suspects got into the building or whether they used the stairs or the elevator in order to get to the individual offices.

Expensive electronics were not all they took. "Assorted food" is listed on the police report as well.

"Only thing everybody keeps saying is that it may have been an inside job," said Martin.

Employees told Action News 5 the sky cop arrived the day after the crime was reported.

They look forward to finding out if the folks responsible look familiar.

There is only a vague description of the possible burglars.
